Description
Remastered reissue of the Dick Morrissey Quartet's 1989 album Resurrection Ritual, which is appearing on CD for the first time.
When John Miles invited Dick Morrissey to record for his by then still relatively new Miles Music label, the invitation certainly fitted the label's premise of giving a platform to the leading lights of the British jazz firmament, of which Dick was certainly a star.
By 1989, Dick was one of the most respected saxophonists in the UK. Able to fit in with a broad variety of music genres from pop and rock to jazz and jazz funk, he was in demand as a guest player for many of the established names in British jazz, as well as working with other notable players in his own line-ups, and it is with regular band mates John Burch (piano) and Tony Archer (bass) along with Jim Hall on drums who came to the studio in December of 1989 to record Resurrection Ritual for Miles Music.
Dick had found particular success in the heady period of British jazz fusion in the early 1980's with the Morrissey-Mullen band, and it is particularly fitting that Jim Mullen agreed to write some additional sleeve notes for this CD release, telling some of the story of how they met and started working together in New York at the beginning of their long musical partnership.
