Description
Eleven improvisations for piano and vibraphone from two major players in the genre - pianist Robert Mitchell and vibraphonist Corey Mwamba.
"These are a small set of sound conversations - based on soil that is nearing 30 years worth of riches, stories and spirit. The fuel is made of components from the realms of rhythmic obsession, texture, melodic seeds and waves of harmonic interest in brief holding patterns. These are meeting present day explorations of the vibraphone and piano - via conventional and extended techniques: those from the classroom and those personal expressions based of a myriad of experiences with different instruments helping to form our distinctive dialects. This all takes place in the fantastic Steinway Recording Studios near Grantham (UK) - a studio whose pristine 2007 Steinway B and silent fresh air ventilation system allows a very temperature stable and superbly productive atmosphere. The whole recording was done in a few hours and the whole session felt like an unbroken long form musical reconnection/catch up! Listen in its entirety if you can - especially given the speed of things these days - to allow the music to fully do its job (and then go make those overdue connections/reconnections!)" - Robert Mitchell
