Description
Tenor saxophonist Tubby Hayes has been acclaimed as the greatest saxophonist that Britain has ever produced. During the 1950s he co-led the Jazz Couriers with Ronnie Scott and he visited New York in 1963 to play and record. Troubled by ill-health and drug associated problems he died 1973 at the age of 38.
Although his studio albums have become collector items his he was at his best live and his performances were breathtaking in their impact and excitement. This live album was recorded over three dates in London in 1967. Originally issued as an LP only release entitled "For Members Only" it made it onto CD with the addition of four tracks. Finally, the sessions are being released in their entirety with a vast improvement in sound quality and the tapes running at the correct speed for the first time!
Added bonuses on this CD include one previously unreleased track, links between the tunes by Humphrey Lyttelton, a brief interview with Tubby conducted by Humph and saxophonist Peter King's personal memories of Tubby in the CD booklet.
Tubby Hayes: tenor saxophone
Mick Pyne: piano
