Description
The restless and visionary Swedish producer and bassist Petter Eldh - one of the most vital and sought-after voices in European jazz and experimental beat music - returns with Projekt Drums, Vol 2, a high-definition evolution of his detailed beatcraft. Highly acclaimed for his prolific work with Django Bates, Jameszoo, Kit Downes and others, Eldh assembles a powerhouse trio of drummers - James Maddren, Savannah Harris, and Richard Spaven - to push his rhythmic world further. The result is a dense, pulse-driven record shaped by low-end design, breakbeats, and interwoven melodic fragments.
At its core, this is a breakbeat record - stretched, twisted, and reimagined. Influences run deep from the beat-science of J Dilla, Madlib, and Flying Lotus to the drum'n'bass architecture of Roni Size and Squarepusher. Projekt Drums, Vol. 2 draws equally from hip hop's swing, jungle's velocity, and the jagged edges of experimental jazz. The album is built on circular logic - in the grooves, the sequencing, and the loops.
Available on marbled gold coloured vinyl.
"Eldh assures stylistic variety and consistent energy throughout this multi-tiered creative project with a lot to be explored and discovered." - JazzTrail (on Projekt Drums Vol. 1)
Press:
"This new recording maintains the standards of the first volume, crammed with melodic hooks, closely-voiced, cute yet jagged horn arrangements, winding jazzy flute melodies and seductive nu-jazz/broken beats from the aforementioned guest drummers alongside Eldh's propelling bass grooves." - **** Jazzwise
"An album which on the one hand should send fans of Madlib, Flying Lotus and Squarepusher into happy delirium, Projekt Drums Vol. 2 has enough compositional rigour and rhythmic suspense to reward more traditionally leaning audiences too." - UK Jazz News
