This release compiles, for the first time ever on a single set, Oscar Peterson's earliest recordings as a leader backed by a string orchestra. Featured here are the complete albums "In a Romantic Mood" (Verve MGV-2002), "Soft Sands" (Verve MGV-2079), and "Buddy DeFranco and Oscar Peterson Play the George Gershwin Song Book" (Verve MGV-2022). This collection also contains the only two existing alternate takes from the sessions, and, as a bonus, an extremely rare complete Buddy Rich date, which presents the drummer solely in the role of vocalist, backed by Oscar Peterson and strings. -
