Originally recorded at Limehouse Studios in London in October 1985, 'Blue Suede Shoes - A Rockabilly Session' brought together one of rock 'n' roll's founding figures with a remarkable cast of musicians who had been profoundly influenced by his music. At its centre was Carl Perkins, the legendary songwriter & guitarist behind "Blue Suede Shoes", joined by George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Dave Edmunds & Rosanne Cash.
Produced & directed by Dave Edmunds, the session is a celebration of the music that helped shape rock 'n' roll, with Perkins revisiting some of his best-loved songs alongside friends & fellow admirers. Harrison & Perkins share vocals on "Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby" & "Glad All Over", Ringo Starr joins Perkins & Clapton for "Matchbox", while Clapton & Perkins trade licks on "Mean Woman Blues" & "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On". Dave Edmunds appears throughout, while Rosanne Cash joins Perkins for "Jackson" & "What Kind Of Girl".
The performance culminates in "Blue Suede Shoes", followed by an encore featuring Perkins, Harrison & Edmunds - a fitting finale to a session that brings together several generations of rock 'n' roll history.
Originally broadcast in 1986, 'Blue Suede Shoes - A Rockabilly Session' has remained a remarkable document of Perkins performing alongside some of the biggest names in music. Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, this new edition marks the first time the programme has been released on Blu-ray, presenting the complete session alongside an extensive collection of additional footage.
The Blu-ray includes the full performance in stereo & ambient 5.1, together with previously unseen material including dress rehearsals, alternative camera edits, interviews & previously unseen performances. Among the highlights are "Sure To Fall" & "Right String Wrong Yoyo", plus features exploring the origins of "Blue Suede Shoes" & conversations with Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Roy Orbison & Jerry Lee Lewis.
The set also includes a 36-page booklet featuring an essay by Peter Doggett, alongside a wealth of photographs documenting this extraordinary meeting of rock 'n' roll legends.
