Description
A fresh insight into the traditional music and song of Wales performed by its best Celtic band of the 21st Century, working with the foremost Celtic harpist.
Lle Arall / Another Place follows on from Alan Yn Y Fan's 2009 release "Trosnant" which has attracted wide acclaim for the introduction of vocals into the band's wide ranging instrumental arsenal. Now the band has recorded four brand new tracks with Delyth Jenkins.
The CD opens with one of the most beautiful melodies in traditional Welsh folk song "Mil Harddach Wyt" - it showcases Meriel's mellifluous voice framed initially by Delyth's Celtic harp the arrangement building through the song with addition of flutes, bass, accordion and fiddle.
Following that is Allan Yn Y Fan's usual concert opener "Hen Ferchetan + Coleg Y Brifysgol Abertawe" - the 2010 recorded version is the most powerful yet and features added percussion on the instrumental tune at the end – toe-tapping is compulsory and involuntary!.
A track from Delyth's 2006 "Aros" album is featured next - just her exquisite Celtic harp on three traditional Welsh tunes. Track 4 is the title track - another Kate Strudwick original - it really will take you to "Another Place" - the tune is other worldly, haunting and the arrangement for the six musicians extracts the maximum emotional quality of the tune.
The CD closes with a set designed for the Welsh step/clog dancer to show their mettle. Upbeat and urgent the set closer leaves the listener on a real "high".
