  • Description

This album features original music for Under Milk Wood, as well as traditional Welsh melodies. 'Llais' means 'voice'. The harp is my voice.

In Welsh, you do not 'play' the harp. You 'sing' the harp (canu'r delyn). The harp is my voice.
In choosing the name for this album, I was also thinking of the 'Voice' in Under Milk Wood that narrates the play, and reveals the lives of the inhabitants of Llareggub through the course of that 'one Spring day.' This album includes extracts from Under Milk Wood and some of the original music that I wrote for a production of the play by Fluellen Theatre Company. Swansea legend Kevin Johns recites Rev. Eli Jenkins's Sunset Poem, and Julie Murphy ('a gorgeously soulful singer') captures the very essence of Polly Garter in her song 'Oh Tom Dick and Harry'.
Also included is a theme I wrote for a production of The Doctor and the Devils, one of Dylan Thomas's film scripts, and original music for 'Fear no more the Heat o' th' sun', the famous elegy to Fidele from William Shakespeare's Cymbeline.
In addition to music inspired my work in theatre, there are also my interpretations of Welsh traditional melodies, such as Trefforest Waltz which I develop with some variations in the minor key.
