  • Description

In the early 1990s John Warren and John Surman fulfilled a long-held ambition to form a brass-led ensemble – The BRASS PROJECT. The ensemble toured to great acclaim and released an album on the ECM label.

JOHN SURMAN – soprano and baritone saxophones, bass clarinet
    CHRIS LAURENCE – bass
    JOHN MARSHALL – drums
STEVE SIDWELL, GUY BARKER, STEVE WATERMAN – trumpets
PETE BEACHILL, MALCOLM GRIFFITHS – trombone
RICHARD EDWARDS, KENNY HAMILTON – bass trombone
JOHN WARREN – composer, arranger, director

This, previously unreleased, suite of tunes were inspired by stories of the early life and travels of John Warren's grandfather and composed especially for the BRASS PROJECT.

Recorded live in London, June 1993 by BEN SURMAN. Mastered for CD by longtime John Surman collaborator Jan Erik Kongshaug in Rainbow Studios, Oslo.
