Description
Chris Marksberry is a singer-songwriter based in SE London.
The Perry Vale Sessions is Marksberry's second official full length album.
Recorded at Perry Vale Studios with Pat Collier (The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Wonder Stuff) and Jess Corcoran (Shed 7), and with David Holmes at Lightship 95. The album is a collection of 11 original new tracks that draw on the styles of rock n roll, folk rock and blues.
The lyrics are story driven and biographical. Last year's 5* debut album 'End of the American Dream' was largely penned on the piano and had a concept based around Marksberry's American roots. 'Perry Vale' moves the dial to electric guitar and shows Marksberry as a singer-songwriter finding his own voice and direction. Produced with raw and spontaneous arrangements, there is energy and vitality throughout the set.
Speaking about the tracks Marksberry details
'The songs were recorded across multiple sessions when the concept for a second album was still unclear and we were trying out new styles and instruments. These songs mark a time and place, when I hear them they transport me back to the live room at Perry Vale and the many wonderful days spent with Pat and Jess. I was excited by this period of song-writing and these sessions along with the musicians that worked with me on these songs made this a very special and enjoyable time. The studio sadly had to close at the end of 2024 with many of the songs still in development, I am eternally grateful to Pat and Jess for their help and guidance and to David Holmes at Lightship 95 for helping me complete the project.'
