Description
A renowned composer of contemporary music, Marcin Stanczyk (b 1977), made his debut on silver screen with music for "Dark, Almost Night". The soundtrack, being one of the important elements for the history told in the movie, works just as well independently.
The listener goes on a journey from subtle melodies played on recorders, through children's lullabies, to dramatic orchestral tutti. There can also be found musical references that create new, unexpected meanings – like in the case of Eva's Lament, a paraphrase of Dido's Lament by Henry Purcell, or the waltz that concludes the entire story, reminiscent of Krzysztof Komeda's famous lullaby from the movie Rosemary's Baby. The film directed by Borys Lankosz starring Magdalena Cielecka, Marcin Dorocinski, Agata Buzek and Piotr Fronczewski is an adaptation of a novel by Joanna Bator, the winner of the Nike Award (2013). The music was recorded by outstanding artists – the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra conducted by Szymon Bywalec, and the soloists: Ingrida Gapova, Pawel Iwaszkiewicz, Marek Nahajowski, Jan Harasimowicz, Leszek Kolodziejski and Grzegorz Gorczyca.
