The complete album + 3 bonus tracks - pressed on limited edition 180g vinyl. The film soundtrack to Marcel Camus' influential 1959 film Black Orpheus, co-written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa, with lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes & Antonio Maria.
Black Orpheus is based on the play Orfeu da Conceicao by Vinicius de Moraes, inspired and set to the classic Greek mythology of Orpheus and Eurydice, but set in a contemporary Brazilian favela (slum) during the Rio de Janeiro Carnaval. The film and its soundtrack were the signposts by which the world first learned of samba and bossa nova.
This LP edition features unique sleeve artwork adapted from the original film poster.
Among the musicians heard here are Luiz Bonfa and Roberto Menescal on guitar, as well as the vocals of Elizeth Cardoso and Agostinho dos Santos.
Includes the classic songs "Manha de Carnaval" and "Samba de Orpheus."
Three songs from the film recorded shortly after by the great Joao Gilberto and released as a 7" EP have been added as a bonus: 'Manha de Carnaval' / 'O Nosso Amor / A Felicidade'.
