Trio Tekke’s debut album. In three years since its release it has become a classic amongst rempetiko (urban Greek folk) fans consisting of originals and re-arrangements of classic songs.
A self-released album that captures the essence of the Greek rempetiko songs from the 1920’s and 30’s, but with a twist. The trio rearranges the old classics, blending flavours of reggae and latin grooves with the original melodies, and adding double bass to a musical environment where it never existed before. The sound is totally acoustic and raw, and having been recorded live, weighing heavily on the vibe, and disregarding imperfections in the playing.
‘Ta Reggetika’ consists of mostly very well known rempetiko songs, (at least to the fans of the genre), alongside original compositions, mainly by Antonis Antoniou, that sit perfectly together. This is a set of songs that was performed time and time again in basement venues in all over London where the band was based at the time, and the album as a whole is a diary of Trio Tekke’s early performing days. -
