Description
The elegantly lyrical and deeply soulful guitarist returns to the studio. Are We There Yet? is hard swing, but also beautifully lyrical.
An expressive instrumentalist, Cherry has a hip, melodic approach that refreshingly contrasts with guitarists who frequently resort to playing 'finger music', the execution of rapid streams of notes that offer little other than filling space. This recording is a continuation and salute to Ed Cherry's influences and mentors in music.
Among these influences is jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie, with whom Ed Cherry performed for over fifteen years – arguably what he is best known for. Described by jazz oracles Downbeat as 'one of the most versatile, soulful guitarists’, with 'impeccable leader projects’, the next instalment of Cherry’s own albums –Are We There Yet? – promises to impress.
