Description
The early music ensemble Die Freitagsakademie is particularly indebted to its namesake Johann Gottlieb Janitsch (1708-1763), and so the Bernese musicians present five of the quartet sonatas here, two of which are world premiere recordings. In 1752 Johann Joachim Quantz described this genre as the "touchstone of a true contrapunctist", and Janitsch's contributions are indeed real gems in this supreme discipline.
"[This recording] includes some of the finest players on the early music scene. […] Together they deliver energetic and engaging performances of these five splendid quartets, which give a good idea of the nature and quality of [Jantisch's] work." – MusicWeb International
