Description
The new album from violinist Niklas Walentin and the Snorre Kirk Trio is a heartfelt tribute to Svend Asmussen, one of Denmark's greatest jazz violinists. Known for his rich tone, playful phrasing and extraordinary charisma, Asmussen remains an inspiration to violinists across genres, from classical to jazz. A deeply personal connection lies at the heart of this project, beginning with a childhood encounter with Asmussen which left an unforgettable impression on Niklas Walentin, and, years later, a shared love of music leading to a unique friendship between the two violinists. Before his passing in 2017 at the age of 100, Asmussen gifted Walentin a collection of his own virtuosic arrangements--eleven stunning takes on jazz standards, distilled from a lifetime of musical mastery. With the guidance of violinist Bjarke Falgren, drummer Snorre Kirk, pianist Calle Brickman, and bassist Anders Fjeldsted, these arrangements were brought to life. Two years of concerts refined the group's approach, culminating in a recording session on the sunlit island of Bornholm. The result is a celebration of Asmussen's genius, a joyful homage to a master musician, capturing the timeless energy and charm that made Svend Asmussen a legend of music.
