  • Description

So me, Christopher Lillicrap? The Children's TV presenter who was hardly off our screens in the late 70's and early 80's. Whatever happened to him? That bloke with the funny name? Forty years later; This Album. A lot of the Album is autobiographical and is the result of my life and a series of events, which a friend has called Serendipity. It involved the discovery of a particular Guitar in a funny little music shop in Athens, a social media post by my son about his childhood, a chance conversation with a heavy rock guitarist who lives literally five minutes from my front door but does beautiful arrangements and a reconnection with the late Keith Chegwin's brother, Jeff. In short; it's been quite a ride and now, at 76, my first recording deal? As a mate said to me the other day, 'That must be some kind of Record.' See, even wit gets old.

In my twenties I was never going to be old, in my thirties age was way off, even in my forties and fifties those old people were a different breed. But now? So just as a caution to you younger folk: When you find us oldies annoying, irritating, and infuriating, which God knows we really can be, take a deep breath. Because sooner than you think, that will be you, and you will be me.

I've been fortunate to have a pretty interesting life. A Teacher, then Nottingham Playhouse Theatre , Kids TV 'We'll tell you a story', 'Flicks', 'Playboard', 'El Nombre',

'Rainbow ', 'Busker,' and so much more. I've mounted Theatre Productions, worked with some of the Greats and some of the not so Great, been a Panto Dame, and with my wife Jeanette Ranger we are award-winning Children's Playwrights.

So here you have it. Eleven wildly diverse tracks, most of which came to me during exiled lockdown on the small Greek Island of Symi, following that chance finding of a Guitar in Athens. (chrislillicrap.com/blog) I hadn't played in over eight years, and I hadn't written a song in twenty and then suddenly Songs. Songs of Love, Songs of Satire, Songs of Reminiscence, a Song which requires a box of tissues and even two guaranteed to provoke arguments. Apart from one, these songs are not Children's songs. However, as a close friend recently pointed out the songs do relate to my early career, they all tell stories, so maybe the Album tells a story too: Christopher Lillicrap, What Ever Happened To ?
