Description
This outstanding release presents the complete trio recordings by the great Thelonious Monk from his earliest session in that format, made for Blue Note in 1947, up to his April 3, 1956 Riverside date, which would mark Monk's second and last trio set for that label. In the following years Monk would only rarely record in a trio format until his marathon 1971 London sessions. Backing the pianist on these seminal recordings are such masters as Oscar Pettiford, Gene Ramey, and Al McKibbon on bass, and Art Blakey, Kenny Clarke, and Max Roach on drums.
