Haydn's compositions appeal directly to the listener; with his economical use of complex structures makes his music for solo instruments easy on the ears. The Salzburg court ensemble employed outstanding musicians on whom Haydn could rely for tasks of this kind, and the Salzburg Hofkapelle continues to operate precisely in this tradition. -
