  • Description

THE FONTANAS are a London band mixing Brazilian funk with upbeat Afro-Latin flavours. Their much anticipated debut album 'Purple Patch' is released on 2nd March 2015 in a blast of colour and excitement. Purple Patch– (slang) a period of success, creativity, good fortune. 'Purple Patch' was recorded in Ray Davies' (The Kinks) personal studio. This offered them classic vintage tones, which they blended with modern production know-how. Studio legend Andy Strange (Michael Jackson, Lalo Schifrin, Paolo Nutini) was on hand to ensure the album lives up to the hype. The album features a selection of 3-minute funk-fuelled anthems with influences from across the globe. The music finds its roots in the foothills of Brazil, but defines its sound from its urban home in West London. The band is comprised of colourful characters from the London music scene, who have played with the likes of Mr Scruff, Alice Russell, Professor Green and The Cuban Brothers. The line up includes vocalist Kay Elizabeth - the powerful front woman and sambista - injecting glamour and energy into the band in a swirl of psychedelic colour and feathers. Carl Hudson is the electro-synth mad professor of the band. Onstage he cranks up the funk and analogue tones to ripple your tickle bone. Also taking lead vocals - songwriter and bandleader Sam Sutton. His passion for Brazilian music and culture led to the band's formation. Hand picked by six degrees of separation, they cut their teeth at their monthly residency 'Cover Up' at West London's Ginglik Club. This allowed the band to build their audience organically, playing to a consistently packed-out club crowd for 5 years. In their own words: 'This got us super tight and drilled for an up-for-it party crowd.' The album offers a mouth-watering taste into their world. Positive and feel good. It will have you bouncing around like carnival came early. - 'Seriously Funky.' BBC6 Music - 'Wonderful Live.' XFM - 'Upbeat positive and very hip' Keith Harris (Stevie Wonder's Manager)
