Description
Editor’s note: As far as I know, this release is the only one to feature Sena Jurinac singing Lieder for voice and piano. The LP for the Westminster label was briefly available in Germany, where it was reissued by the German label Heliodor. Sena Jurinac did make recordings of other songs, but without piano accompaniment: Ottorino Respighi’s Il Tramonto (the sunset) with the Barylli Quartet and the Vier letzte Lieder by Richard Strauss, recorded live with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra under Fritz Busch in 1951. These recordings later appeared in the French Références series released by the label EMI (now Warner). The producers recorded these Schumann Lieder in mono format only. The best available source was an original mono LP pressed in the USA. This recording was carefully remastered for the CD transfer. - Dieter Fuoss (March 2017)
