Description
'Randy's Home' is the debut jazz album from popular Norwegian vocalist Hege Saugstad - an ambition that existed since her teens but held in abeyance for years because of successful career centered around pop music. Jazz has never been far from Hege and this genre debut has been well worth the wait, not only for her exceptional voice and interpretations of some iconic standards, but also for the incredible supporting rhythm section of brothers Hans and Per Mathisen whose work alone is worth the album's price. In a crowed world of vocal albums, 'Randy's Home' is an exceptional production.
The CD contains ten songs, of which eight are standards, an original bossa by Hege titled 'Look Into My Eyes', and a song by alto saxophonist Phil Woods titled 'Randy'. The musicians in this trio really get the best out of each tune - silky smooth arrangements, wonderful timing, and beautifulmelodic lines.
The album's title is a dedication to the famous Norwegian jazz journalist Randi Hultin (1928 - 2000) who was a popular writer for many of the world's jazz stars who performed in Norway. Alto saxophonist Phil Woods' composition Randy exemplifies this, though he spelt his name slightly differently.
Hege Saugstad: vocals
Hans Mathisen: guitar
Per Mathisen: bass
Ole Petter Hansen Chylie: percussion (tracks 4 and 8)
