Description
For his second album the French alto saxophonist has chosen repertoire based on original compositions and arrangements of liturgical Hebrew songs and Yiddish folklore. With the emphasis on melody and groove, Fettmann expertly provides the link between Hebraic spiritualism and modern jazz vocabulary.
The trio is made up of organist Guillaume Naud, alongside US drummer Johnathan Blake, one of the most interesting drummers of the current generation. The journalist John Murph called him the "ultimate modernist" due to his song-like and at the same time irresistibly grooving rhythm. Blake first caught the attention of the public as a permanent member in the bands of Tom Harrell, Kenny Barron, Oliver Lake, Roy Hargrove and David Sanchez. He has performed on around 50 releases as both a sideman and leader.
As well as leading his own group Fettmann was alto saxophonist in the Orchestre National Jazz Luxembourg from 2005 to 2012, with whom he accompanied George Duke, Dee Bridgewater, Paquito D'Rivera, Richard Bona, Patti Austin, Helge Schneider and Didier Lockwood, amongst others.
Personnel: David Fettmann (alto saxophone), Guillaume Naud (organ), Johnathan Blake (drums)
