Reissue of the leading French trio - drummer Aldo Romano, saxophonist Louis Sclavis and bassist Henri Texier's best-selling 1999 album Carnet de routes: Suite Africaine. Following the huge success of the concept album Carnet de Routes (1995) - one of the biggest-selling French, and indeed European, jazz records ever, with more than 70,000 copies sold - the trio, joined once again by photographer Guy Le Querrec, set out from September to October 1997 on the roads of Africa, this time through East and Southern Africa, completing their tour of the continent. On their return they composed fifteen pieces inspired by the journey - Suite Africaine.
The album was recorded and mixed in 1999 at the Gil-Evans studio of the Maison de la culture d'Amiens, under the technical direction of Philippe Tessier du Cros; mastering was by Jean-Pierre Bouquet. It was released on 15 August 1999 on Label Bleu, again accompanied by a booklet of photographs taken by Guy Le Querrec on the new journey.
Suite Africaine met with the same immediate success as its predecessor, selling 40,000 copies in its first four months and 60,000 in total, and was followed by sporadic touring across Europe. The trio reunited a third time for a final record, African Flashback (2005).
