Description
Fabian Johannes Egger says of this project: "In 2024, when, while searching for a subject for a composition for solo flute, I happened upon Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Butterfly." A sentence from Hans Christian Andersen's tale The Butterfly describes a fundamental aspect of human existence: merely being alive is not enough. It is our longing for meaning, freedom, and happiness - for something that ultimately can never be fully attained - that gives life depth." These thoughts gave rise to the idea for this concert programme. Literature, mythology, and music form the supporting pillars of its concept; they enter into dialogue with one another, mirror one another, and open up spaces for emotion, memory, and interpretation. The works on this CD are selected from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, together with his own compositions, to bring the many facets of this subject to life through a contemporary musical language. Alongside Fabian Johannes Egger on flute, he is joined by Madoka Ueno on piano, Swantje Wittenhagen on harp and Cosima Federle on cello.
