Description
Jewish humour has been an integral part of American show business since the dawn of vaudeville and it hit something of a sales peak during the early 1960s thanks to Allan Sherman.
The master of parody, Allan Sherman is perhaps best known for his 1963 hit “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh!” but presented here are his first two albums, the first of which “My Son The Folk Singer” was by November 1962 described as the fastest selling LP in American music industry history. According to its label, Warner Brothers, the disc had passed 300,000 units in just its first three weeks on sale and was well over the million copies by December 1st. The second album “My Son The Celebrity” was also a runaway success and not long after entering the charts it also reached No. 1.
Sadly by 1969 Allan Sherman was largely forgotten but the two albums on this excellent and hilarious set serve as a permanent reminder of his genius.
