Description
One of the true vocal hits of its time, The Andrews Sisters consisted of three authentic sisters: contralto LaVerne, soprano Maxene, and mezzo-soprano Patricia "Patty". It is considered that they sold an estimated eighty million records. The Andrews Sisters' harmonies and songs are still influential today, and have been copied and recorded by entertainers such as Patti Page, Bette Midler, Christina Aguilera, Pentatonix, and others. They were among the inaugural inductees to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame upon its opening in 1998.
Probably the most successful female vocal group of the first half of the 20th century in the U.S., the Andrews Sisters had 113 singles chart entries between 1938-1951. They boasted an exuberant, close-harmony style, and their intricate vocal arrangements and rhythmic ability mirrored the sound of the swing bands. Their harmonies and songs are still influential today, and have been copied and recorded by entertainers such as Patti Page, Bette Midler, Christina Aguilera, Pentatonix, and others.
