Description
The acknowledged Queen Of Country Music, KITTY WELLS was the first solo female singer to top the US Country charts, in 1952, with 'It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels'. She went on to establish herself as Country's first female superstar, and in doing so she took down the barriers on behalf of all the female Country singers who came to prominence in her wake.
Her piercing, penetrating voice ached with melancholy and during the 50s and 60s she was unstoppable, with an almost unbroken run of success.
This compilation features the fifty-five hits that she racked up on the U.S. Country charts between 1952 and 1962, plus a further half-dozen singles.
Several of these sides are surprisingly difficult to find elsewhere on CD, making this a most welcome release.
