Description
Singing, especially at Christmas, is an age-old tradition that the Wuppertaler Kurrende consciously and diligently upholds. Among the many Christmas carols, the "Quempas" stands out as a significant piece, sung in various regions of Germany for centuries. In the Wuppertaler Kurrende's 100-year history, Quempas concerts have been a staple of the concert calendar for over 70 years. In addition to the Quempas, artistic director Lukas Baumann has curated a diverse programme for the album, spanning from the Renaissance to contemporary music. This includes a specially commissioned composition by Alwin Michael Schronen. The album features well-known Christmas classics presented in a new light: with introductions, interludes, and postludes, the Lautten Compagney Berlin and soprano Johanna Rosa Falkinger bring a fresh interpretation to familiar Christmas carols, which are not always heard in their traditional arrangements. With its eleven instrumentalists, the ensemble creates a richly textured soundscape, enhancing not just the Quempas but the entire festive repertoire.
