  • Description

    Summer again at last!

Bear Family Records delivers the soundtrack to this summer! Timelessly cool instrumental recordings at the highest technical level from the heyday of surf rock and R'n'R. Dusty? Not at all. As soon as these sounds boom out of the speakers, the need for summer, the sun and beach parties is triggered in us.

These instrumentals describe the fascination of surfing, the immense power of water and waves, dangerous reefs, shallows and rocks. Pimped-up hot rods and muscle cars are parked on the shoreline, inviting you to race along the coastal highways under the mercilessly burning sun. All this and more is conveyed in these 34 songs.

In contrast to some loveless compilations, we deliver surf hits in lesser-known versions like Pipeline by The Challengers or Dick Dale's Misirlou as Misirlou Twist. Pop icons such as the Beach Boys were deliberately omitted.

The recordings, some of which are rare, deal with the above-mentioned subjects and demonstrate the lasting influence they had on popular music, especially in the 1960s. Surf rock is regarded as one of the pioneers of punk rock and psychobilly.

The 36-page color booklet for the CD was painstakingly researched and written by surf rock icon John Blair from Los Angeles and contains many previously unknown details. Rare photos and illustrations as well as the crystal-clear sound of the re-mastering round off the whole package: Fun, Fun, Fun!

    • Summer, sun, the beach and a great attitude to life - all this is reflected in a fascinating Bear Family Records CD compilation, and the cool sounds of surf and rock 'n' roll instrumentals.
    • Great hits and numerous rarities from the 1959 to 1966 period.
    • In addition to stars such as Dick Dale, Jan & Dean, Duane Eddy and The Ventures, there is plenty of room here for lesser-known artists and bands who produced great surf sounds.
    • The spectrum ranges from classics such as Misirlou, the title track Surf Beat to the rare cover version of Driftin' by Danish band The Go-Getters, plus many rare originals that were covered by later generations of surf bands.
