  • Description

Bob Dylan made his mark on US pop culture in the 1960s with his performances, his songwriting and lyrics like no other contemporary. An icon of folk and rock music, he influenced a generation of fellow artists who were either unable or unwilling to escape his charisma.

French music producer Philippe Le Bras spent years developing the concept of a compilation on which Dylan's influence is obvious at every second, although not a single cover version of his songs can be found. Yet the master is present on every track on this CD, leaving his mark on these songs and their performers. It's quite remarkable who is here: Lou Reed, Leon Russell, David Crosby, Boz Scaggs, Bob Seger, Bobby Darin, Tom Rush, Len Chandler, Dion, Peter La Farge, Barry McGuire, Casey Anderson, Ferre Grignard, Dick Campbell, P.F. Sloan, Dean DeWolf, Johnny Winter, Billy Joe Royal, David Blue and others. Three of the 25 artists on the CD debuted in the mid/late fifties, one was added after 1975. Throughout, you can hear these artists trying to catch up with their peer and mentor and write songs in the way he pioneered.

    • Never heard before CD compilation, dedicated to the charismatic musician and author who revolutionized folk and rock music like no other in the '60s and became the worldwide figurehead of a cultural upheaval in youth culture: Bob Dylan.
    • Compiled with expertise and passion by French producer Philippe Le Bras for Bear Family Records, this anthology features original recordings, mostly from the mid-1960s.
    • Dylan-inspired artists such as Dion, Lou Reed, Bobby Darin, Leon Russell, David Crosby, Boz Scaggs, Bob Seger, Johnny Winter, David Blue and many others try to catch up with their mentor and colleague and produce songs in the idiom he pioneered.
    • Not a single Dylan song on this album, and yet the master can be heard throughout!
    • Foreword by the late John Sinclair, essays by Iggy Pop and Elliott Murphy, extensive liner notes and numerous rare illustrations and memorabilia in the 48-page booklet.
    • Careful re-mastering by Peer Meyer.
