Camino Flamenco is an album of original solo flamenco guitar music, moving between the sombre intensity of Siguiriyas and Tientos and the brightness of Alegrias, Colombiana and Zapateado - across 7 pieces, Samuel Moore uses flamenco's traditional forms to explore loss, recovery, memory and renewal.
The Desolation And The Light was written following a near-fatal accident. Its stark, deliberately simple melodies draw on the gravity of Siguiriyas to express the isolation of serious injury and the determination required to recover. Homecomingcaptures the joy of returning to the guitar after a long period of convalescence. The lightness and Latin American influence of Colombiana bring movement, warmth and renewed energy.
Granada combines the depth of Solea with echoes of the city's Arabic heritage, reflecting the place where Samuel first fell in love with Spanish culture. Echoes of Carnegie Hall recreates his first solo performance at the venue, moving from the restrained tension of Tientos into the rhythmic energy of Tangos as anticipation gives way to performance.
The one-minute For My Grandmother is a bright, affectionate Alegrias inspired by the woman who introduced Samuel to flamenco. Its brevity recalls her telephone calls, which were always much shorter and more direct than her long, story-filled conversations in person.
The album closes with Rossallia, an uplifting Zapateado built around 4 original falsetas, each representing someone who encouraged Samuel during his early musical life.
Samuel Moore brings considerable flamenco and jazz experience to his debut solo album. He studied privately with Juan Martin for 5 years, attended workshops with Paco Pena and has performed in more than 30 countries, including solo appearances at Carnegie Hall and Ronnie Scott's. On Camino Flamenco, that experience can be heard in the control, rhythmic assurance and clarity of the playing, while the compositions give the album its own character.
