Description
This new CD from DUX presents an exploration of the development in the compositional output of Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz throughout her career. The Sinfonietta for string orchestra was written in 1935, and the Divertimento in 1965, a few years before Bacewicz's death.
Shortly after the war, Grazyna Bacewicz composed two more very important works in her output: Symphony (1946) and Concerto (1948), both for string ensemble. They culminate the neoclassical and neobaroque period of Bacewicz's work.
All Bacewicz's compositions are distinguished by their disciplined style, clarity of form and richness of textural ideas, which affect their original sonic qualities.
The pieces presented on the album are performed by the PRIMUZ Chamber Orchestra. This project crowns a decade of their creative work. The artists are associated with the Academy of Music in Lódz, bearing the name of Grazyna Bacewicz. Lukasz Blaszczyk is the orchestra's conductor and artistic supervisor.
"The Concerto for String Orchestra showcases Bacewicz's rhythmic vigour; the Symphony for Strings dripfeeds out the tension. Surprises are everywhere: Poland's Primuz Chamber Orchestra is alive to all of them." – BBC Music Magazine (4 STARS)
"[The Primuz Chamber Orchestra] play with verve and imagination and seem thoroughly at home in her world. The recording is excellent and the sleevenotes, in Polish and English, are helpful. […] I think this one would be hard to beat. Bacewicz is well worth hearing." - MusicWeb International
