    A publisher and composer with a sense for authenticity: Johann Anton Andre acquired more than 270 of Mozart's original manuscripts from his widow Constanze - among them Don Giovanni, whose overture on this album serves as a prelude to another work from the collection: Mozart's orchestral enhancement of the today underrated Violin Concerto No. 16 by the then brilliant violin virtuoso Giovanni Battista Viotti, regarded as the decisive breakthrough among his concertos. The main work on this album is Johann Anton Andre's grand Symphony in E-flat major, Op. 25 - extraordinarily inventive and marked by a highly individual handling of the orchestra, composed in the period surrounding Beethoven's Eroica.
