Description
After charting for the first time with his third single (and first Top 3 hit) "Endless Sleep", Marty Wilde enjoyed 13 UK hits between 1958 and 1962, most of which made at least the Top 20 and more frequently than not, the Top 10. All thirteen are featured here, alongside all of his non-charting A sides from the period as well as many of the B sides.
He wasn't the first UK artist to rock 'n' roll, but there's no doubt that Marty Wilde was our first real local Rock 'n' Roller. His weekly appearances of our TV screens on 'Six Five Special', 'Oh Boy!' and 'Boy Meets Girls' made Marty a familiar face on British TV screens from the mid-50s to the early 60s, and the records he made during that time were seldom far from the top of our charts.
Marty had the looks, but he also had the talent to back it up. He was one of the only UK acts to breach the US Hot 100, and tour America at a time when very few of our artists got a look in 'across the pond'. Later in his career, Marty's song writing skills provided big UK hits for the likes of Status Quo, Lulu and his daughter Kim.
At nearly 80 years of age, Marty is still touring regularly and still entertaining capacity crowds with his great hits from almost 60 years ago - including just about all of those featured here. Take a "Walk On The Wilde Side" with this great Jasmine collection and you will understand why he was and remains so popular.
