Description
'Joining the Dots' is the first album by the Mark Cherrie Quartet. What makes this a little unusual is that the album is led by Mark Cherrie, a steel pan player. The line up on this record feature some of the UK's finest jazz players.
These include Eric Ford on drums, John Donaldson on Piano and Mick Hutton on double bass. The quartet is also joined by special guests including guitarist Nigel Price and saxophonist Dave O'Higgins.
The whole recording sounds live but beautifully recorded, with a lush sense of space around the instruments. The titles on it are a very mixed bag including jazz classics by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, to more modern jazz standards by Pat Metheny, to jazz takes on contemporary tunes by Nirvana and The Police.
The cover artwork bares a little nod to some of the classic Blue Note sleeves of the 1960s, whilst still looking contemporary. Inside the cover is an informative booklet, featuring some moody black and white photography by Greg Heath.
