Description
The Jimmy Heath Big Band recorded live at the Blue Note jazz club, NYC in 2011 to celebrate Heath's 85th birthday. The band includes jazz stars such as trumpeter Roy Hargrove, saxophonist Antonio Hart and drummer Lewis Nash. They perform a mixture of Heath originals and jazz standards by Charlie Parker and Billy Strayhorn, amongst others.

Jimmy is the middle brother of the legendary Heath Brothers (bassist Percy Heath and drummer Tootie Heath), and is the father of Mtume. He has performed with nearly all the jazz greats of the last fifty years, from Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis and Howard McGhee to Wynton Marsalis. During his career, Jimmy has performed on more than 100 albums including seven with The Heath Brothers and twelve as a leader. He has also written more than 125 compositions, many of which have become jazz standards.
