Gil Scott-Heron embodied a mix of fiery social commentary, soulful music, and deep artistry. One of the most influential voices of his time, his performances were renowned for their intensity, intelligence, and ability to engage and provoke thought. He referred to himself as a "bluesologist" and to many he is seen as "the godfather of rap". His raw, emotional story-telling from classics such as "Home is Where the Hatred Is" approach addiction through a poetic, personal, and sorrowful perspective.
