The set also includes King's rare 1956 sides for the small El-Bee label. This is the material upon which Freddy King's legend was built and marks one of the most important building blocks of the electric blues.
Hotter than molten steel and best-known for his searing, assertive guitar solos and dynamic showmanship, the great Freddy King was a forceful presence and formidable figure in two of the most prominent blues scenes: Texas and Chicago.
Revered by his fans and respected by his peers, King was an innovative instrumentalist and underrated singer. He would move beyond electric blues, R&B and soul to make commercial inroads into funk. There was a time, though, in the early and mid-1960s when his records were among the most influential in blues, particularly for British and European audiences.
"Freddy King is an essential influence on my guitar style." - Eric Clapton
