With Partita - Music from the Movies, pianist Eliane Reyes invites us to hear film music without the screen. At the heart of this project is her fascination with the expressive possibilities of the piano and her ability to bring familiar melodies into a new, intimate light. Reyes brings together music by fourteen composers, including Philippe Sarde, Vladimir Cosma, Bruno Coulais, Gabriel Yared, Michel Legrand and Georges Delerue. Many of these scores were originally conceived for orchestra; here, they are transformed into solo piano works through close collaboration between composer and performer. Some were specially reworked for Reyes, while others reveal unexpected colours and details through her interpretation. The project grew from Reyes's long-standing interest in film music, first sparked by her early studio experiences, and from years of personal encounters with composers and their music. Their trust in her is central to the recording: she does not attempt to reproduce the soundtrack, but searches for the essence beneath it. Her playing combines virtuosity, sensitivity and curiosity, allowing melodic lines, harmonies and dramatic gestures to emerge with striking clarity. The result is a piano album where cinema remains present through memory and imagination -- a collection of themes given new life through the distinctive voice of Eliane Reyes.
