Description
Chicago, live from Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY 20th May 1977
Performed at the Nassau Coliseum on 20th May 1977, for broadcast on WLIR-FM, as part of the ongoing One-to-One benefit program begun by Lennon and Ono in 1972, this set features the seminal Chicago line-up prior to the death of Terry Kath and including percussionist Laudir de Olivera. The band fire through versions of fan favourites from the 9 studio albums recorded to date with the entire band on kicking form. Anyone coming from "If You Leave Me Now" and working backwards would be surprised at the level of political commentary that the band tackled on their earlier releases. Here such tracks as "25 or 6 to 4" and "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is" sit comfortably with the ballads like the aforementioned "Leave" and "Just You 'N Me." The level of musicianship that Chicago were always renowned for-the brilliant guitar playing of Kath in particular-is here for all to hear on this tour-de-force recording with the audience playing their part in creating what would have been a night to remember.
