  • Description

The Calmus Ensemble says of this recording: "There are too many countries, languages and cultures for us to be able to comprehensively cover international folk songs on just a single CD so we chose some contrasting ones to fill the CD with character.

With 21 songs from 17 countries and in 14 languages it is fairly crammed. We also allowed ourselves a special focus on songs from the British Isles which we have come to love, and we tell many stories – about loving and drinking, about people and landscape, about morality and craftsmanship; flippant and serious, sad and frolicsome, profound and coarse. Our listeners will certainly not be bored!"

From Ireland and England to Scandinavia, Russia, Taiwan and all the way to Ecuador! Folk songs from five continents can be heard on the CD, the spectrum ranging from traditional, simple settings to highly virtuoso new arrangements made especially for Calmus.
