Description
Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745) proves himself here to be a master of contrapuntal composition, which he makes great use of in traditional passages such as the end of the Gloria and Credo as well as in other passages. Frieder Bernius has already proved himself to be a congenial interpreter of Zelenka's music on CARUS on several occasions and this time too, with the Stuttgart Chamber Choir, the Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra and an excellent ensemble of soloists, he is completely convincing.
'The performances are pretty much ideal. With the Kammerchor Stuttgart and the Barockorchester Stuttgart, Frieder Bernius has two top-class ensembles at his disposal. The tutti are brilliantly sung, and the orchestra delivers colourful and dynamically differentiated performances.' – Music Web International
'Headline billing is granted to the Missa Gratias agimus tibi (October 1730). An incongruously optimistic Kyrie and convivial Gloria have graceful solo turns, polished interjections from the disciplined Stuttgart Chamber Choir, refined natural trumpets, tightly controlled timpani and precise strings.' – Gramophone
