Description
A set of new compositions by bassist/composer Ben Crosland inspired by sculptures at Yorkshire sculpture park commissioned for the 20th Marsden jazz festival 2011 performed by Crosland's new band, the brass group.
The brass group which features Steve Waterman and Martin Shaw on trumpet/flugelhorn, Mark Nightingale and Barnaby Dickinson on trombone and pianist Steve Lodder, has grown out of Threeway, Crosland's trio which explores the possibilities of a group without drums. This stellar sextet retains the same intimacy and subtlety whilst the larger instrumentation provides Crosland with a broader compositional palette to develop the colours and textures of his pieces with rich voicings and imaginative ensemble writing. The improvisational skill and creativity of these great soloists are a given.
Personnel: Steve Waterman, Martin Shaw (trumpet, flugelhorn), Mark Nightingale, Barnaby Dickinson (trombone), Steve Lodder (piano, keyboard), Ben Crosland (bass)
