Coming to prominence as the pianist of the legendary John Coltrane Quartet, McCoy Tyner recorded more than 80 albums between his 1962 debut as a bandleader, Inception, and his final release, Solo: Live from San Francisco (2009). Tyner, who died in 2020, won five Grammy Awards and significantly expanded the boundaries of jazz by blending modal jazz and fusion with hard bop and free jazz. Reaching Fourth was his second album as a leader.
