Description
Mystic songs about an Arabia Dracula, Nubian dance music, funky electrified xylophones and mysterious Zar/Voodoo grooves from the acclaimed Sudanese/Egyptian collective RANGO.
Following a sold-out show at the Barbican's Transcender Weekender, and a triumphant month-long UK tour in October 2009, mystic Egyptian/Sudanese musicians Rango release their debut album "Bride of The Zar" on 30IPS Records in May 2010.
Recorded in Cairo and London the disc features a 190 year-old vintage Rango Xylophone with spirit manifesting gourd resonators, tales of Yawera Bey - the Arabian Dracula, songs recounting the mysterious disappearance of Sardine rations amongst Sudanese serving in the Egyptian army and Bellydance-inducing Nubian melodies played on lyres retrofitted with electric pickups and shakers made from recycled aerosol cans.
Tracks: Sawakin / Major / Holeela / Ahlan Be Eltlat Asyad (Welcome Oh three spirits) / Bergamon 14 / Free Mind / Henna Night / Baladia Wey (Instrumental) / Bolley / Assuybian Lady / Baba Rikaley
