Description
The Tashi Lhunpo monks release the first ever Tibetan Buddhist Greatest Hits album in September to coincide with a three-month concert tour of the UK - including a residency at the Edinburgh Fringe, appearances at Off the Tracks, The Eden Project, WOMAD's Taste the World in London, Musicport and dates at regional arts centers across the country.
The new album, 17 Golden Greats, features ten tracks compiled from the monks' prior albums on 30iPS, along with seven new recordings - with two prayers composed by the Dalai Lama: Prayer for the 17 Masters, paying homage to the 17 Pandits of Nalanda (the ancestral home of Buddhism in
India) and The prayer of the words of truth, written in response to the Chinese occupation of Tibet.
Founded in Shigatse, central Tibet, by the First Dalai Lama in 1447, Tashi Lhunpo Monastery was renowned for its scholarship in Mahayana philosophy and the Tantric tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Following the occupation of Tibet in 1959 and the Cultural Revolution from 1966 - 80 many of the Monastery's precious ancient scriptures & statues were destroyed.
Arguably one of the hardest working world music acts regularly touring in the UK, the Tashi Lhunpo monks have released five albums over the last decade - The Power of Compassion, Power of Prayer, Dawn Till Dusk, Time of the Skeleton Lords and Wisdom & Insight - along with two DVDs and a custom set of special Buddhist Ringtones for the iPhone/iPad and Android devices, helping to bring enlightenment to smartphones and tablet computers.
