Description
Violist Marc Sabbah releases an album of J. S. Bach's Six Suites for Violoncello on the viola. J. S. Bach is known for his monumental collections of works, and amongst these, the Six Cello Suites, BWV 1007-1012 stand as some of his finest and most idiosyncratic works. Evocative, charming, and technically brilliant both from a compositional perspective as well from the demands made of the performer, the Six Suites have been the summit for countless string players over the years from Pablo Casals to Yo-Yo Ma to Rachel Podger. These timeless works continue to inspire performers to delve into their world, and to imprint their original voice on the shape of the music. Here, violist Marc Sabbah performs his version of these monumental compositions in their entirety. Sabbah: "'Bach enjoyed playing the viola and I'd like to think that these suites could have been conceived on viola, and if not, then it's my own wishful thinking."
