    Among the 84 competitors in the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Kevin Chen was one of the most familiar names from the start. Having won the Artur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv in 2023, the Canadian pianist had already established quite a following--as evidenced in the applause when he arrived for the First Round. With a number of prestigious appearances even then to his credit, the 20-year-old musician was also no stranger in Poland, having already played at the International Chopin Festival in DusznikiZdroj and the Chopin and his Europe Festival in Warsaw. At the end of the Competition, when the jury's final deliberations finished around 2.30 am, it was announced that Chen had won second prize, earning himself a distinguished place the Competition's history.
