Tenor Daniel Behle fulfils a heartfelt wish and sings the "great" bel canto repertoire. However, he is not accompanied by a symphony orchestra, but by the renowned Alliage Quintet. The idea is as unusual as it is charming: instead of a full opera orchestra, four saxophones and a piano take centre stage - sometimes shining velvety soft like strings, sometimes flashing virtuosically like brass instruments. Behle, one of the most versatile tenors of our time, sings arias that every opera lover carries in their heart--and which shine here in completely new colors. Bel canto with a wink, so to speak...The program is a who's who of tenor artistry: Offenbach's tongue-in-cheek Kleinzack aria (sung in German), Bizet's beguiling Je crois entendre encore, Gounod's poetic Salut! demeure juste et pure, Donizetti's legendary Ah! mes ami with its famous high notes - all the way to Puccini's Nessun dorma (sung here in German as Keiner schlafe). There are also Italian bravura pieces such as Rossini's La danza, romantic highlights by Verdi, Ponchielli, and Halevy - and, of course, the finale: O sole mio in a very special "Hamburg" version.
